Patek Philippe unveils the new chronograph Ref. 5470P

Patek Philippe has released a new high-tech chronograph with many innovative features. This is the new reference. 5470P, 1/10 second platinum monopusher chronograph.

Patek Philippe, 5470P
It was the first Patek Philippe watch to measure to 1/10th of a second, and the movement was protected by 7 patents unique to this movement. They first converted one of their existing chronograph movements from the classic 4Hz frequency to 5Hz. The basis they chose was the CHR 29-535 PS, a two-second chronograph. The escapement of the movement has been replaced with a new escapement that incorporates all of Patek Philippe’s “high research” innovations in the field of Silinvar (Oscillomax Ensemble) running at 36,000 bph. Then they removed the minute-second module and replaced it with a 1/10-second module. The module drives the individual 1/10 second hand in the red lacquered Silvinar hands (the first time we encountered the use of silicon in hand manufacture, it was chosen because it is light and strong.

Instead of just doing a new 5Hz chronograph movement and attaching the chronograph seconds hand to the fourth wheel, as in the Zenith El Primero, Patek Philippe opted to develop a new module on the chronograph that only shows the 1/10th of a second hand. The result is a high-resolution capability that can solve 1/10th of a second problems that is simple and intuitive to use. There were significant challenges to overcome in building this module. Philip Barat and his technical team took on the task of solving these problems with very elegant solutions that are inherently easy to use but very complex to create. We’ll cover this in detail in our technical discussion article. cheap luxury watch

Patek Philippe unveils its first watch to measure and display the 1/10th of a second maintain this high level of accuracy.

To meet this mechanical challenge, the Manufacture used the CH 29-535 PS movement, the first Patek Philippe classic chronograph movement designed and produced entirely in its workshop, with six patents (2009) . The frequency was increased from 4 Hz to 5 Hz (36,000 vibrations per hour, or ten steps per second), and the movement was equipped with an additional chronograph mechanism dedicated to 1/10th of a second.

To ensure easy and fast reading of the measured time, the movement developers have devised a patented system of concentric seconds and fractional seconds indication. The monopusher chronograph is equipped with two central hands, each driven by a mechanism. One hand (one minute of rotation) allows the seconds to be read in the traditional way; the other hand makes one revolution around the dial in 12 seconds, covering 12 sectors, each subdivided into ten sectors zone, corresponding to a tenth of a second.

To meet the triple goals of efficiency, reliability and precision, for the first time in the current collection, the manufacturer integrates the high-tech Oscillomax® adjustment mechanism developed by cheap Patek Philippe‘s technical department responsible for the 2011 “Advanced Research” collection (17 patents) . Seven other patented innovations developed for this new 29-535 PS 1/10 movement also help reduce energy consumption, protect the movement from shocks and avoid the risk of breakage in the event of mishandling.

This new Small Collection Grand Complication model features a platinum case with openworked and satin-brushed sides. Details such as the 1/10th of a second hand with red-lacquered Silinvar® seconds hand and a calfskin strap with a navy blue embossed fabric pattern and contrasting red stitching enhance its sporty feel.
