On display in 2020: Greubel Forsey Balancier S limited edition
Last year, Greubel Forsey relied on the success of its first sports model, GMT Sport, to show its sportiness again with the new Balancier S. BalancierS timepieces bring a more casual atmosphere to the brand’s haute watch brands. This new watch will be performed at Balancier Contemporain in 2019, and borrows the design code of the sporty brother GMT Sport, but Balancier S itself is its beast. Unlike Balancier Contemporain (the first Greubel Forsey watch under 40 mm), Balancier S is not violet. The widest case (diameter of the bezel) is 45 mm and the height (with curved sapphire crystal) is 15.60 mm, but due to the use of titanium, it weighs only 110 grams (including the rubber strap). Even the screws that fasten the object to the housing are made of titanium.
The satin-finished bezel is engraved with Greubel Forsey’s key values, and there are depressions and arches at the edge of the case. The rubber pads on the crown and strap ensure excellent grip, but can also be easily replaced to match the color of the rubber strap. When viewed from above, the box may look round, but from other angles it is clearly oval.
The multi-plane dial can see the return of two key elements. GMT Sport’s suspension arched central bridge maintains the curved gear transmission mechanism and curved hour and minute hands, as does the large balance wheel (12.6 mm) that first appeared on the original Balancier that debuted at SIHH 2017. The surface has a frosted escapement platform (fixed balance wheel, hairspring and escapement) at a 30-degree angle to the horizontal plane of the movement. This inclined structure counteracts the influence of gravity on the precise movement of the movement.

Greubel Forsey copy watches are known for their perfect finishing techniques and are all handmade. The bottom cover of the exhibition once again showcases the studio’s impressive finishing skills. The titanium bridge has a matte finish and raised black polished edges. Expect to see polished bevels and countersinks, and even the smallest surfaces can see round and straight textures. It is not easy to process the titanium surface by hand, so it is not surprising that a skilled craftsman needs about two months to complete one of the actions.
