Richard Mille launches the RM 57-03 Tourbillon Sapphire Dragon

Most of Richard Mille’s recent (and best-selling) watches are ultra-lightweight and very technical in terms of materials and styles. The new RM 57-03 Tourbillon Sapphire Dragon is different. Instead, it dates back to the time of Richard Mille not long ago, when people used decorative techniques to make extremely complex watches such as the Boucheron tourbillon.
RM 57-01 first came out in 2012. It was originally launched as a “Jackie Chan” version, designed in collaboration with Hong Kong action stars, and decorated with a miniature dragon sculpture on the movement. Subsequent versions include RM 57-02, where the dragon is replaced by a falcon, which is a popular pattern in the bay area.
The RM 57-03 Tourbillon Sapphire Dragon watch is only available in Asia. It is actually a variant of the RM 57-01 sapphire crystal and gold dragon. Richard Mille used this material for the first time to make a sculpture.
Produced by Olivier Vaucher, a micro-decoration expert in Geneva, serving brands such as Roger Dubuis, Van Cleef & Arpels and Zenith, the dragon’s sapphire body is first ground from a piece of sapphire and then laser engraved to form its details. Then connect the sapphire fragments to the pure gold and red gold parts that make up the dragon’s head, tail, limbs and spine. To highlight the dragon’s tongue and eyes, paint them red with a small brush. Correspondingly, the tombstone of the tourbillon is a large round ruby in the shape of a rose gold rhinestone.
The watch is powered by the calibrator. The RM 57-03 is a variant of the manual winding movement found in most Richard Mille tourbillons. It is produced by Renaud & Papi, Audemars Piguet’s complex craft workshop. Here, the base plate of the movement is drilled in a spiral shape.
The Online replica watch in the picture has a case made of NTPT Carbon, a carbon composite material made by Swiss carbon expert North Thin Ply Technology (NTPT). The inner carbon layer forms its unique particle appearance.
Other versions of the RM 57-01 will also be produced, including five cases with transparent sapphire cases.
